Little Bald Mountain Loop

Topographic Map: Duncan Peak (7.5'), Royal Gorge (7.5') Map
Managing Agency: Tahoe National Forest

The Little Bald Mountain Loop Trail was added in the second edition of the guide. Here is the description if you have an earlier edition.

Passing through Baker Ranch on the drive out to the Little Bald Mountain Loop you will notice that the road sign says Robertson Flat, not Robinsons Flat. It was known as Robertson Flat until about 1961 when the United States Board on Geographic Names rejected the name and accepted Robinsons Flat. The Forest Service guard station located here is one of the oldest in California being built between 1913 and 1916.

When hiking the loop be sure to take the extra time to hike the spur trail to the Duncan Peak Lookout to enjoy the views from the lookout and to see the lookout. TNF has a nice little publication with more information on the Duncan Peak Lookout and the use of other lookouts on the TNF.

Robinsons Flat is also one of the checkpoints on the Western States Trail. The Western States Endurance Run, a 100 mile run, is held at the end of June. And at the end of July the Tevis Cup, a 100 mile trail ride, is held.
